Wipers – the ‘cleaning artist’ of windshields

The wiper may be one of the most inconspicuous accessories on a car, lying quietly under the windshield. However, once encountering rainy or snowy weather, its value is instantly highlighted. A good wiper can provide you with a clear and bright view, which is the first and most important guarantee for driving safety on rainy days.

It’s not just about wiping the rain

The responsibility of modern wipers has long gone beyond simply wiping the rain:

Clearing rainwater: Quickly scrape off rainwater to ensure clear visibility ahead.

Cleaning dirt: Mud, bird droppings, insect glue, and other debris splashed during vehicle operation need to be cleaned with windshield wipers and windshield washer fluid.

Dealing with snow and frost: In cold regions, specialized snow or ice scrapers can more effectively remove snow and ice.

Aging symptoms and replacement signals

Wipers are rubber parts that, when exposed to sunlight and rain for a long time, will inevitably age. When the following situations occur, it means that replacement is needed:

Unclean wiping: leaving water marks and striped water film, affecting vision.

Abnormal noise shaking: making a piercing “croak” sound or violently jumping when scraping.

Rubber strip hardening/cracking: When touching the rain scraped rubber strip with your hand, it is found that it has lost elasticity and cracks appear.

How to choose and maintain?

Confirmed model: The wiper has multiple interfaces such as U-shaped hook and direct insertion, and the size (such as 24+18 inches) also varies depending on the vehicle. Before purchasing, it is necessary to confirm the compatible model of your vehicle.

Select type:

Traditional skeleton style: cheap in price, but difficult to evenly distribute under pressure.

Boneless wipers: Currently, the mainstream method is to apply force to the steel plate as a whole, making it more tightly attached to the glass, resulting in cleaner and quieter wiping.

Daily maintenance: Regularly clean the dust and sand particles on the rubber strip with a damp cloth; Before scraping snow and frost in winter, manually clean it to avoid tearing the rubber strip; When the car is not in use for a long time, the wiper arm can be raised to prevent the adhesive strip from sticking to the glass.
